Hi Jaylee. Some personal characteristics that would help with being a corrections officer would be good interpersonal skills, physical strength, integrity, courage, detail-oriented, and level-headedness. You can take tours of local jails sometimes, so that might be a good option to get a first-hand look into the lifestyle of a corrections officer. My advice is to study up and work hard!

You must be physically and mentally tough. Being a correctional officer requires a lot of paitance and it is a very thankless job. Non the less it can be rewarding if you desire to move up the ranks as well as make good connections with your peers! In all honesty you will need a high tolerance when it comes to dealing with the prisoners, but as long as you keep your professionalism, bearing, and integrity you will be successful!
