It is important to determine what is of interest to you as you will be devoting many years to your career. Once you discover that, there are many great jobs that can be had by earning a 2-year associates degree at a community college. These can be in a variety of fields including the medical profession (physical therapist assistant, occupational therapist assistant, dental hygienist, etc), business, computers, skilled trades and much more. You could go to the website of a local community college and browse through the various degrees offered or go to an Open House the college may offer to see if any are of interest.
Of course, community college is not the only way to become qualified for a good job in less than 8 years. But it's an avenue to consider due to the time and cost savings.

Hi Natalie, i'd recommend looking at apprenticeships and paid internships if possible; i work with some really succesful people who skipped further education and went straight into the workplace at the end of school. As part of their role they also received in-role development, which meant that by the time they were in their early to mid 20's they had a resume filled with experience and academic development.
Those skills and experiences were very valuable to their career and progress.

Natalie, as a retired high school guidance counselor, I suggest you explore your local community colleges. Why? Because you are unsure of your post-secondary & career choices which is perfectly normal. Community college will give you the support, opportunity & flexibility to explore your educational options without breaking the bank or going into debt. Also, community colleges offer several programs with length of study options. For example, you can earn a certificate in weeks, months, or an associate degree in just 2 years. Earning a certificate is a great way to explore without making a huge time or financial commitment. You may even be able to audit a class or two for free. The good news is that if you enjoy your certificate field of study, most community colleges will allow you to use those credits towards an associate degree. Also, earning a certificate will increase your employability & competitiveness over someone with only a high school diploma or GED. Remember, community colleges are state colleges & a great educational resource.
I appreciate this, thank you for the advice.
