John Wooden turned out many professional players (like Kareem Abdul Jabbar, Bill Walton, Jamaal Wilkes, Henry Bibby etc..), and his Pyramid of Success is a good tool to use when it comes both to basketball and pursuing any goal in life.
Laying a good foundation, like the side blocks of the pyramid, is a good start. These include:
*Industriousness. There is no substitute for hard work, and worthwhile results come from hard work and careful planning
*Enthusiasm. This brushes off on those whom you come into contact. You must truly enjoy what you are doing.
Coach Wooden had a profound impact on me (and he did win 10 NCAA titles at UCLA). His definition of success, goes like this:
"Success is peace of mind attained only through self-satisfaction in knowing you made the effort to do the best of which you are capable."
I think the John Wooden Pyramid of Success can help lay a good foundation and the traits for future success.

Thomas’s Answer
First, be "coachable". Never assume you have reached your full potential. Be eager to learn and easy to correct. Buy into the coach's process and trust it. Second, know your "why". Why are you playing? Is it for someone else? Make sure you are seeing basketball as a platform to reach a higher calling. Positive influence and character building are the main objectives in anything you end up doing for a career. Finally, "eat the frog". Do the difficult things first. Find the thing you dread the most about achieving your immediate goals and do that first thing in the morning when you are fresh. Good luck.

Having qualities like teamwork, resilience, perseverance, stamina, a strong will, a positive mindset, and a never-give-up attitude can really make a difference. But remember, it's not just about these traits. It's equally vital to seize opportunities and have the essential physical attributes. Keep going, you've got this!
