College is where you will make some of your life long friends. For me, this started with my roommates, then classmates, and moved on to random people i met through events and activities throughout the years. You will find that college is a much larger melting pot than most high schools, their are groups and organizations that are dedicated to special interest from video games, to majors, to sports and entertainment. My advise to you is when you meet knew people, just spend a little time talking with then and connecting through social media. This will help you see their interest and how your may relate. First of all, don't be afraid to introduce yourself to people around you, let them know you truly want to make friends with them, increase your approachability, being initiative and use the humors way to make topics.
As you are studying college in a new place, therefore you could ask peers out for a meal, attend more social events for better connection with difference people, build up social relation, or join some volunteers or commities etc. Also being open minded for welcoming people around you, do not be shy and be true to yourself, I believe people will truly feel it when you want to make friends with them.

There are so many ways to make friends in college. There are always events going on on campus that you can attend. Also your classmates that have the same major as you are also good to have as friends. College is all about what you make it! So if you put yourself out there, step out of your comfort zone, and become really involved you will have an amazing college experience and meet so many great people along the way! You will be surprised how many people are so much like you!

Hello Monica,
Don't worry about making friends. College is very liberal and accepting, at least that was my experience. You will make friends naturally as you take your classes, do homework, study for exams, and participate in activities.
