Does adding a Computer Science minor with my Geology major make sense?

Great question! The short is yes. The long answer is definitely yes! Computers are integrated into virtually every career and will continue to be an increasingly integral part. If you understand at least the basics of computers and programming, you have an advantage in that you can talk to the programmers and you understand what is and is not possible. Perhaps you can learn enough to tweak or even create programs to assist you in your job. It's a great skill set to have!

I agree that this sounds like a great idea! I work as a software engineer, and many of my colleagues got their start in other fields.
Not only are computer science and software skills a great way to develop a possible secondary career, it is very likely that you will find creative ways of using these skills in a Geology career. Software skills are used extensively in scientific research.
Given that, however, I don't think that you should force it. If you enjoy working on computers and learning how to write software and the process of developing code, go for it! If not, it's probably not required.
