Hello, Morgan !

It's very good that you are starting or thinking about starting to learn the art of acting ! My learning ground was in your city so I think that I could give you some good advice although the theatre and acting community have greatly changed since I was a student and did my primary acting there.

Firstly, you will need to have your parent(s) oversee your acting activities. I would advise that you take advantage of every play and performance you can at school and every year till you graduate high school. That will introduce you to direction, the feel of it and the work that is required. So for now focus on school based plays and performances. Venture out into your schools' video activities, too. Read a lot of plays - always read plays.

Additionally, please look into the Sacramento Children's Musical Theatre. Call director John at (916) 905-7514 and ask when the next workshop begins. I have left a link below for his e-mail also. This may be something good to be involved in during the summer perhaps. You can also explore summer theatre camps and get information about when they begin.

So basically, to become an actor, it takes education and experience. You may not be ready to obtain paid work for a while, but we all have to go through our own education path and have a lot of different experiences before we are ready to become professional. This is one journey that you will no doubt enjoy.

After high school, continue to gain experience by doing shows and creating a resume and have photos taken. These are the usual tools one uses to get acting work. Also register at Actors Access and any other casting agencies you find through a search on line for your local area. Although you do not need a college degree to be an actor, I would highly advise attending college and obtain at least a Bachelors Degree in something that is your second interest. Having the degree is a good back up and if you go for a theatre degree, that would help a lot if you decide to work in theatre administration at some time in your future career.

So you will need lots of training and experience. After some time, the profession will become familiar to you and you will be able to make decisions based on personal choice as to what you want to do with your career and where you want to be involved with acting. Follow this advice and you will determine whether or not a commitment to acting is right for you !

I wish you all the best !

Hi Morgan,

It is wonderful to see young individuals with such passion and drive for the arts.

One of the first steps I would recommend is to explore opportunities within your school. I suggest you check to see if your school has a theater group or film group where you can gain hands-on experience and develop your skills. Being a part of such groups can provide you with valuable exposure to the world of acting and help you build a strong foundation in the field.

Additionally, I would advise you to participate in acting workshops, classes, or summer programs that are specifically designed for young aspiring actors. These programs can offer you the chance to learn from experienced professionals, own your craft, and network with others who share your passion.

It is also important for you to start building a portfolio of work. Start going to audition for school plays, local theater productions, or student films to gain practical experience and showcase your talent. Having a portfolio of your performances can be beneficial when you starts applying for acting opportunities in the future.

Furthermore, I would recommend that you research reputable acting schools or programs that offer formal training in acting. Attending a respected acting school can provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and connections to pursue a successful career in acting.

Lastly, I would emphasize the importance of perseverance, dedication, and hard work in the pursuit of a career in acting. I encourage you to stay focused on your goals, continue to practice and improve your craft, and never give up on your dreams.

I hope these suggestions are helpful in guiding the you on your journey to becoming an actress. Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions or need additional advice.

Warm regards,

Jennifer

HEllo:

Outside of Michelle's lovely insights, you can look at various materials and online resources to educate yourself on acting. This can guide you to decide if that is actually what you yearn to be.

https://www.masterclass.com: Helen Mirren, Natalie Portman, Nancy Cartwright, etc.
Reading:
AN ACTOR PREPARES BY CONSTANTIN STANISLAVSKI
AUDITION BY MICHAEL SHURTLEFF
RESPECT FOR ACTING BY UTA HAGEN
etc.
Learn: Anything really. Knowledge beautifies the possibilities that your mind and acting can realize. Preparing you deeper than if not.

Thankful for the pathways your roads plant.

God Bless,

John German
