Christy’s Answer

Earning a degree in business administration, be it an Associate's, Bachelor's, or Master's, is designed to equip you with a comprehensive skill set for managing a profit-making entity. If you start with an Associate's degree, you could potentially begin your career as an Administrative Assistant to a top executive or even as an assistant manager in a smaller setting. With a Bachelor's degree, you're more likely to step into a managerial role right off the bat. It's important to note that this degree does involve a certain level of math. But don't worry, it's logical because as a manager, you need to ensure your company is profitable.

Generally speaking, to truly shine in this profession, you need solid communication skills (it's a bonus if you're a people-person), plenty of common sense, and a desire to lead. Writing skills are also crucial in today's job market, and showcasing your professionalism through impeccable spelling is a big plus. If spelling isn't your strongest suit, don't fret! Make use of the handy tools in your word processing and email programs to double-check your grammar and spelling. Remember, you've got this!

Christy recommends the following next steps:

Find someone who IS a manager and ask them if you can job shadow them for a day to see what they do.
Take an online vocation test to see if your personality fits a manager's role.
Go to an online employment site and check out positions in your area.

Alison’s Answer

A business degree offers you a plethora of opportunities. To begin with, a Bachelor of Arts (BA) doesn't restrict your career path to a specific industry; it's all about finding what you enjoy doing. If you're someone who loves engaging with people, a BA can be an excellent qualification for roles such as customer service or account management. On the other hand, if you're inclined towards data and analytics, a BA can be your gateway to a specialized role as a data analyst. The fundamental knowledge gained from a business degree can be a significant advantage, allowing you to develop skills in the areas of business or industry that you are passionate about.

Upgrading to a Bachelor’s degree opens doors to more advanced opportunities in areas like management, finance, and marketing. This higher qualification typically leads to roles with greater responsibility and higher pay, such as operations manager, financial analyst, or marketing coordinator. Both degrees also provide a solid groundwork for further education, like an MBA, which can catapult your career into upper management and specialized fields.

Kaman’s Answer

Adding to advices that others have provided, do note that there are different types within business administrations that you can focus on. For example, based on your interests, you might want to focus on marketing, international business, human resources, finance, sales and many others. With that said, a degree in business administration (any of the focus area mentioned above) will help prepare you to learn more about those areas but also learned to run an organization more efficiently and effectively, as well as understanding the strategies to plan and execute a business plan where you define your goals and objectives, visions (short or long term).
