What is the best career in tech?

In computer science

Thank you comment icon One great thing about working at a tech company is you don't have to always be a tech person yourself. Those companies typically have to offer excellent benefits and perks to attract hard-to-hire engineers but that also means that everyone at that company gets to benefit from most of those same benefits and perks! Fred’s Answer

There is no universal answer to this question. It depends on what kind of IS work you like to do. Some like to write code. Some like to manage networks. Some like to manage people.

There are hundreds of different areas, and what is "best" is different for each and every person. And what you think is best today may not be what you think is best tomorrow. This is a field that is constantly changing and evolving, much faster than many other fields.

Rebecca’s Answer, CareerVillage.org Team

Chiming in with a new perspective on tech careers in social impact! I am of course biased, because I work for CareerVillage.org :) You may not have thought of us as a tech company, but we are in a niche community of tech nonprofits working to make the world a better place leveraging the power of technology. For us, we see technology as a huge way to drive scale -- reaching more people who need our services, while being able to remain high quality, personalized, etc.

I am totally not a technology person, I really love human-centeredness. However, since working for CareerVillage I've learned how when tech is harnessed for good, it is incredibly powerful and impactful. It inspires me! There are a lot of technology nonprofits you can look up here on Fast Forward's website (they are an accelerator program we participated in that is specifically focused on tech for social impact): https://www.ffwd.org/alumni/

These organizations range from helping with climate change, food security, education, and so much more. I hope this is an interesting direction for you to consider pursuing! Good luck :)
