What career would be best for me?

I am currently interested in three careers: Business, Architecture, and Art. I want to be an entrepreneur and start my own type of small business. But I would like to be able to design and build buildings and the inside of them. And I would also want to be able to enjoy a hobby that relaxes me which is art. I'm more into painting, sculpting, and designing. I'm not sure which careers to pick and which I would like the best.

Kholoud’s Answer

Considering your varied interests in Business, Architecture, and Art, a career in architectural entrepreneurship, with a focus on interior design, seems well-suited to your goals and passions. This would allow you to combine your desire to start and run a business with your interest in designing and building spaces, all while incorporating your artistic skills into your projects. As an interior designer and business owner, you'd have the flexibility to shape environments that reflect your architectural vision and provide clients with unique, artful spaces. Your affinity for painting, sculpting, and designing could become an integral part of your business's signature style and a personal hobby that offers relaxation and creative fulfillment.

Hy Haylee,
Those are wonderful fields you are interested in! Architecture and interior design is also a form of art, so you might be able to incorporate your hobby into your career. If you want to become an architect/interior designer, go for it, and try to incorporate your artistic visions into your projects.
Additionally, gaining a secondary degree or taking additional courses focusing on entrepreneurship, as well as looking into working / having an internship in a design company will help you realize, how such business is run and what is required from an organizational perspective, to be a successfull designer.
Most of all - take your time, enjoy all you do and learn in the fields that interest you, and remember, you can always decide to switch/change/adjust your career path, when you will be learning new skills and gaining experience! To be able to change and adapt are a sign of growth!

Hellena’s Answer

It sounds like you have a diverse range of interests! Given your passion for entrepreneurship, architecture, and art, you might want to consider a career that integrates all three. One option could be to pursue a degree in architecture with a focus on entrepreneurship and design. This could prepare you to start your own architecture firm where you have the flexibility to incorporate your artistic pursuits into your projects. Alternatively, you could explore opportunities in the field of interior design, which would allow you to combine your love for design with your entrepreneurial aspirations. Ultimately, it's important to choose a career path that aligns with your passions and strengths, so take the time to explore each option further and consider which one feels like the best fit for you.

Micah’s Answer

Perhaps hire a career counselor to do psychological testing to see which careers would work best for you and your goals! I hired a career counselor and found that their battery of the NEO-PI-3, Card Sorting, Personal Interview, and Myers-Briggs Assessment, resulting in a career recommendations report gave me the confidence to move forward with a career change that is both profitable and fulfilling with good outlook.

As an aside, though your career should be fulfilling, I don't think that you should rely on it for your creative outlet. Perhaps have painting as your side hobby. Though maybe you are more artistic, and an arts career might be for you?

Linda’s Answer

Well I am very right brain which is where your creativity is housed and logic, math and practical matters are left brain dwuellers. So which one of these are you? The reason this is important is Business and to a large degree Architecture are ruled by the left side of the brain and Art dominate right brain with Architecture strongly rooted here as well. My right brain tells me I can fly lol and my left brain tells me to get off the roof lol. But seriously I would be unhappy in a job ruled by my left brain,I know I couldn't sit at a desk day after day. My creative energy won't allow me to. So I believe if you study you tendencies to figure this out your career decision will present itself more clearly.

Hello Haylee,

Mapping Out Your Ideal Career Journey

As you embark on your journey to find the perfect career, it's crucial to align your choice with your interests, abilities, and long-term ambitions. You've expressed curiosity in three diverse areas: Business, Architecture, and Art. Each of these domains provides distinct pathways for growth and personal satisfaction. Let's delve into each one to empower you to make a well-informed choice.

1. Business: If the thrill of entrepreneurship and launching your own venture excites you, a business career might be your ideal match. As an entrepreneur, you'll have the chance to breathe life into your innovative concepts, design your own workspace, and possibly achieve financial prosperity. Key skills for thriving in the business realm include leadership, strategic planning, marketing, and financial management.

2. Architecture: If you find satisfaction in designing and constructing buildings, a career in architecture could be immensely rewarding. Architects craft functional and visually appealing structures that cater to their clients' needs. This profession demands a robust understanding of design principles, technical skills, creativity, and meticulous attention. Architects often collaborate closely with clients, transforming their ideas into tangible drawings, models, and construction blueprints.

3. Art: For those who find solace and happiness in painting, sculpting, and designing, an artistic career might be the perfect fit. Artists enjoy the liberty to express their creativity through various mediums and styles. As a painter, sculptor, graphic designer, or illustrator, artists contribute significantly to shaping society and inspiring others with their creations.

Choosing Your Path: Deciding on a single career path can be daunting when you have diverse interests. However, it's vital to see how each choice resonates with your long-term objectives and values. You might also want to explore opportunities that fuse elements from all three fields – like launching a business specializing in architectural design or infusing art into your business ventures.

In the end, the ideal career for you will be one that aligns with your strengths, passions, and dreams. Consider reaching out to career advisors or professionals in each field for deeper insight into what each path involves.

Wendy Shirley’s Answer

It's great!

You could study a career in architecture or interior design as a base and while you practice your profession, study a postgraduate degree in Business so that you can undertake it, and there will always be opportunities to express your art within your work or as a hobby!
