Eva’s Answer
Before becoming a police detective an officer starts with recruit training. During the 6 months at the Academy a recruit officer will be paid about $55,000 per year. After an 18 month probationary period the officer's salary will increase to about $60,000. Most officers wanting to become detectives will take the detective examination at year five or later. Starting pay for a detective is about $80,000. If a recruit starts training possessing a 4 year college degree there is about a 5% increase kicking in when they graduate from recruit training. Hope this helps.
