What is typically needed when it pertains to having your own cosmetology business?
I am in t10th grade starting my own business, which has been in the works for 2-3years although I truly started taking it serious in 2023. I do not know how to get a proper clientele base. What are the easiest products to use as a beginner and specific pieces of advice that you as a community have.

Hi, Tink--my sister is a colorist, and owns a salon with 3 partners. Here is what she says:
"1. While you're finishing high school, and before your formal training in a cosmetology school, get a part-time job in a salon. Working in a salon is a front-row seat to see how colorists and stylists do, how they interact with clients, and everything that goes into making a salon run (so much laundry!!). It's the best way to make sure you really want to do this work
2. You do need formal training through a cosmetology school, and not all schools are created equal. Go to the best school you can afford.
3. Once you've graduated from school and have your license, try working in a salon for advanced training. I learned the basics in cosmetology school, but the most important learning came in advanced training at a high-end salon--I got a ton of practice under people who were incredibly experienced, and they helped me gain skill, speed, and a professional manner. And it's where I began to build my client roster. When we opened our salon, the majority of those clients followed me because I had built their trust over time."
