Dear Faith,
Steps to Secure a Job Early in Life
Securing a job at a young age can be an enriching experience that offers not just financial freedom but also imparts valuable skills and life lessons. Here's a guide to boost your chances of landing a job early in life:
1. Identify Your Interests and Skills: Start by understanding your interests, strengths, and skills. Reflect on what you love doing and what you're good at. This will help you pinpoint job opportunities that resonate with your passions.
2. Seek Entry-Level Positions: As a young aspirant, entry-level positions can be an excellent starting point. These roles usually require little experience and offer on-the-job training, making them perfect for newcomers to the job market.
3. Craft Your Resume: Even if you lack substantial work experience, you can still design an attractive resume. Highlight your education, extracurricular activities, volunteer work, internships, and any relevant skills or certifications. Customize your resume for each job application to demonstrate how your background matches the job requirements.
4. Connect with Others: Networking is a vital part of the job search. Connect with family, friends, teachers, or community members who might be aware of job openings or can provide recommendations. Participating in career fairs and industry events can also help broaden your professional network.
5. Leverage Online Job Platforms: Online job platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Glassdoor, and company websites are excellent resources for finding job openings suitable for young job seekers. Create profiles on these platforms and set up job alerts to stay informed about new opportunities.
6. Get Ready for Interviews: Practice common interview questions and situations to gain confidence for interviews. Do your homework about the company you're applying to and prepare insightful questions about the role and the company to ask during the interview.
7. Exhibit Professionalism: When applying for jobs and going for interviews, it's crucial to portray yourself professionally. Dress suitably, communicate effectively and confidently, show enthusiasm for the role, and express your eagerness to learn and progress within the company.
By adhering to these steps and being tenacious in your job search, you can enhance your chances of securing a job early in life.

Hi Faith,
Depending on your age you may be able to get a job at a large grocery department or food chain restaurant. I know here in Florida, a few large grocery chains hire many minors, and I have also seen minors working in large food chain restaurants. Sometimes, it's easy as walking in and asking the manager if they are hiring or applying online through their website. It doesn't hurt to ask.
I would also suggest for you to familiarize yourself with the child labor laws from your state. I have posted a link with this information: https://dwd.wisconsin.gov/eworkboard/minor-time/.
I hope this helps!
