Hi Andrew,

Preparing for college involves several steps, from researching colleges to getting organized for the application process. Here's a guide to help you get ready:

1. **Research Colleges:** Start by researching colleges that align with your academic interests, career goals, location preferences, and other factors important to you. Explore their programs, campus culture, facilities, and admission requirements. Make a list of potential colleges to consider.

2. **Attend College Fairs and Information Sessions:** Attend college fairs, information sessions, and campus tours to learn more about different colleges and get a feel for their campus environment. Take advantage of opportunities to speak with admissions representatives, faculty members, and current students.

3. **Consider Your Major:** If you have a specific major or career path in mind, research colleges known for strong programs in that field. Look into faculty expertise, research opportunities, internship placements, and alumni success stories related to your intended major.

4. **Review Admission Requirements:** Familiarize yourself with the admission requirements for each college on your list, including GPA, standardized test scores (SAT or ACT), letters of recommendation, essays, and extracurricular activities. Note any specific deadlines and application materials required.

5. **Prepare for Standardized Tests:** If required by the colleges you're interested in, start preparing for standardized tests like the SAT or ACT. Consider taking practice exams, enrolling in test prep courses, or using online resources to improve your scores.

6. **Work on Your GPA:** Maintain a strong academic record throughout high school by studying diligently, completing assignments on time, and seeking help when needed. Your GPA is an important factor in college admissions decisions.

7. **Get Involved in Extracurricular Activities:** Participate in extracurricular activities, clubs, sports teams, volunteer work, or part-time jobs that interest you and demonstrate your skills, interests, and leadership qualities. Colleges value well-rounded applicants who are involved in their communities.

8. **Seek Letters of Recommendation:** Build relationships with teachers, counselors, coaches, or mentors who can provide strong letters of recommendation to support your college applications. Ask for recommendations well in advance and provide them with information about your academic and extracurricular achievements.

9. **Start Writing Your Essays:** Begin brainstorming and drafting your college application essays early to allow time for revisions and feedback. Tailor your essays to each college's prompts and focus on showcasing your unique personality, experiences, and aspirations.

10. **Stay Organized:** Create a timeline or checklist to keep track of application deadlines, required materials, test dates, and other important milestones. Stay organized throughout the application process to ensure you meet all requirements and submit your applications on time.

By taking proactive steps to prepare for college, you'll be better equipped to navigate the admissions process and find the right fit for your academic and personal goals. Good luck!

Preparing for college can be an exciting yet overwhelming time. Here are some pieces of advice to help you navigate this transition and make the most of your college experience:

Start Early: Begin preparing for college well in advance by researching colleges, exploring different majors or fields of study, and familiarizing yourself with the college application process. Starting early will give you ample time to gather information, make informed decisions, and meet application deadlines.

Set Goals: Define clear academic, personal, and career goals for your college experience. Consider what you hope to achieve during your time in college, whether it's earning a degree, gaining new skills, exploring your interests, or preparing for a specific career path.

Stay Organized: Keep track of important dates, deadlines, and requirements related to college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and enrollment. Create a calendar or checklist to stay organized and ensure that you don't miss any critical deadlines.

Seek Guidance: Don't hesitate to seek guidance and support from teachers, school counselors, mentors, or family members as you navigate the college application process. They can provide valuable advice, feedback, and resources to help you make informed decisions and overcome any challenges you encounter.

Explore Your Options: Research different colleges and universities to find the ones that best fit your academic interests, career goals, location preferences, and personal preferences. Consider factors such as size, campus culture, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and financial aid options when evaluating your options.

Prepare Academically: Take challenging courses in high school that will prepare you for college-level coursework and help you build a strong academic foundation. Focus on developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills that will serve you well in college and beyond.

Stay Balanced: While academics are important, don't forget to prioritize your physical and mental well-being. Maintain a healthy balance between academics, extracurricular activities, socializing, and self-care to prevent burnout and maintain overall health and happiness.

Get Involved: Take advantage of opportunities to get involved in campus life, such as clubs, organizations, sports teams, volunteer work, or part-time jobs. Getting involved will help you meet new people, explore your interests, and develop leadership skills outside of the classroom.

Be Open-Minded: Keep an open mind and be willing to step outside of your comfort zone to try new things and meet new people. College is a time for growth, exploration, and self-discovery, so embrace new experiences and challenges with an open heart and mind.

Stay Focused on Your Goals: Stay focused on your academic and personal goals, and don't let setbacks or obstacles derail your progress. Remember that college is a journey, and it's okay to make mistakes or change course along the way. Stay resilient, stay determined, and stay true to yourself as you pursue your dreams and aspirations in college.

The college selection process is one that should be done with plenty of time.

Things to consider:
The major you would like to pursue.
- this will help you weed out colleges that don’t offer your major or that aren’t ranked too high (if that’s a factor for you)
- you could filter out schools based on the scholarships offered for people in your major specifically
- study abroad opportunities
Location
- do you want to save money by staying close to home?
-do you want to explore the world and go overseas?
-how important is location to you?

Financial aid
- are you looking for a school that provides a lot of aid?
- are you and your parents able to afford all the schools you’re considering?
- what’s feasible for you?
- do you do extra curriculars that the school offers scholarships for? (Ex: sports)

These are just a few things to prompt you as you start your search.

Wishing you all the best!
