what is a good way to stay concentrated in school?

I am bad at concentrating and I tend to doze off in class without meaning to which leads to me missing info in classes

I find that taking notes while I listen is helpful. I'm the kind of person who can't simply listen to someone talk about something, I need to actively participate. I do still miss out on some of the information, but what I am hearing sticks better.

Here's another thing that most people don't want to admit but it's true: if you don't find it interesting, then you'll struggle to learn it. If it doesn't seem relevant, you'll have a hard time keeping focused. Something that may help is finding a way to connect what you're learning with something that matters to you. What are you learning in your history class? What time period is it? Are you talking about the Vietnam War? Is there anyone in your family who fought in Vietnam, or anyone who serves in the military at all? Ask them about it. Gain some personal connection to it. What are you learning in Math? What equations are you learning, and what are they useful for? What real world scenarios can you use this equation for?

Also, class isn't the only place you can learn. If there are topics you covered in class that you're struggling with, find a fiction movie or a book about what you're learning. I know that the Internet is full of misinformation, but you can always find YouTubers and podcasters that make content specializing in these topics. Even if the information is off, it may give you the chance to gain a little more understanding and even give you questions to ask your teachers.

Also, your fellow students are a good source of help. Ask them if you can go over the work with them. They may have caught something you missed, or may be able to explain something to you in a way that is easier for you to understand.

Paying attention in class is important, but the ultimate goal is that you understand the material.

Hey Francis, you're definitely not alone. This was an issue that would plague me throughout school, and can be a tough roadblock to success in classes. Here's a couple things which can help:

1. Get Sufficient Sleep: This is something I realized only after I finished school, that my ability to pay attention in class was directly correlated to how much sleep I had gotten the previous night. This is the number one solution to many problems, you should aim for at least 8 hours a night if your schedule allows as this can significantly help your ability to retain attention in class.

2. Drink water and eat well: Dehydration and malnutrition are big contributors to low energy levels, so make sure you find time to drink water and eat nutritious meals.

3. Exercise: Your body and mind work in conjunction, a healthy body leads to a healthy mind. With the very real stress of school, exercise offers a break from the monotony of study, while offering a huge mental health boost upon completion.
