How do I keep being motivated and more productive throughout college?

I'm an up and coming College freshman and I'm wondering how to keep up with my work, keep up with schoolwork and college.

What helped me the most throughout college was:

1. Taking advantage of tutoring and writing centers.
2. Using a calendar to keep track of assignments due and upcoming project deadlines.
3. Time management. Which includes avoiding procrastination and knowing how to balance your time between homework, hanging out with friends, studying for tests, and all other tasks within the day.
4. Joining study groups with other classmates. I found it very helpful to discuss ideas with other classmates to reinforce classroom material and to learn from each other.
5. Resting. It's important to get enough sleep as a college student and avoid pulling all-nighters. Getting enough sleep can help boost productivity.
6. Exercise. It's also very important to get enough physical exercise to stay healthy, which can also help boost productivity and clear stress.

My best advice is to use your resources!
- Talk with your academic advisor
-Meet with your professors
-Use the tutoring center and writing center
-make study groups with classmates
-use the counseling center, wellness center, rec center to keep mentally and physically healthy

Time management is going to be your best friend! Make a schedule with everything on it- classes, studying, time to eat, extra curriculars. And schedule in enough time to sleep as well. 8 hours of sleep is needed!

Don't fall victim to procrastination and end up pulling all-nighters. Schedule when projects and papers are due. Write out timelines to study for exams.

As far as staying motivated- make goals for yourself. Goals can help to keep you on track as well as motivate you and give you things to look forward to.

I grew up in West Oakland and that was a pretty rough environment. As I went through college, I kept reminding myself that the harder I worked "today" the further I could move from the life I grew up in. Don't lose sight of the notion that each class, assignment and test is an investment in your future. Your control the effort you put in and that effort can positively impact your future.
