What resources would you recommend to help an incoming Freshman going into college?

I am entering my first semester as a freshman in college and as much as I am nervous, I am ecstatic to start college life. My only concern is acquiring tips and resources to make the best out of my college experience for the next four years. So, what would you guys suggest for me to make the best out of my college journey?

Jerome’s Answer

Get involved! Attend Freshmen events, join clubs and event get involved with study sessions.

I wish I would have been more active with my time @ San Francisco State, I don't have nearly as many contacts or relationships as I could have.

You will get out of college what you put into it, just be brave and take advantage of the opportunities you are given!

Excited for you! Good Luck.

Great question Angela!

Here is my advice:
-Start by taking your general education courses first. Wait two years before jumping into your major. A lot of the general education courses overlap with major requirements anyway. It gives you more time to explore and make sure you choose the right major
- Go and see your academic advisor every year to make sure you are on track and taking the right courses
- Get involved on campus (join a club, use the fitness center, alternative breaks, study abroad) and use your resources (tutoring center, writing center, career services)
- Make a structured schedule for yourself. Time management is the hardest adjustment from high school to college. Schedule everything including time to eat and get enough sleep.

Set some goals for yourself.
I had 3 goals for myself in college- to be a college athlete, to study abroad, and to do the Disney College Program. These goals helped to motivate me and opened up new opportunities for me as well.

I hope this helps!
