Career Growth: Pharmacy technicians often have opportunities for advancement, such as becoming certified or pursuing further education to become a pharmacist or specialize in areas like chemotherapy or nuclear pharmacy.
Variety of Work Settings: Pharmacy technicians can work in a variety of settings, including retail pharmacies, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and mail-order pharmacies, providing options for different work environments based on personal preferences.
Helping Others: Pharmacy technicians play a crucial role in helping patients access their medications safely and efficiently. It can be a rewarding career knowing that you're making a positive impact on people's health and well-being.

Sujin’s Answer

Hi Zoe,
First, I want to tell you a little about my background. I am a pharmacist now but I used to be a pharmacy technician, before and during pharmacy school. My parents are immigrants so have always had odd jobs that were not always stable or paid well. So, I think I went into pharmacy because I liked to help people, work with people, and it offered a stable, good paying job. It is also flexible if you have a family, e.g. you can work night shift or work with your manager to have a non-traditional schedule other than Monday-Friday, 9-5. Nowadays, you can also find a pharmacy technician job in all kinds of areas like management, education/training, inventory, controlled substances auditing, etc. You will have to start in a traditional pharmacy to get experience first. Hope that helps!
