Sofonis: Lawyers do what they do mostly to help people. However, like everyone else we have bills to pay! So...generally, we handle cases in different ways. Most common, bill an hourly fee for what you do. Second option, contingent fee. If you win, you get a portion of the verdict/setlement. There are also barter arrangements - but I'll leave that for someone else to explain.
Do not become a lawyer for the money. Become a lawyer because you care about the rule of law!

That's because most lawyers do everything in their power to help people; to bring justice to people who are wronged or hurt, and they fight for good; yes there have been instances of lawyers that have been proven to be very corrupt and dirty, but most cases they use their power to fight for good; with that said you have to make a choice on whether you want to be on the good side (the side that helps people get the justice they deserve), or you want to be on the bad side of the law (the side that only cares about money and not people)
