Rafa’s Answer

Do you mean in general how are mechanical engineers helpful for society, or how being a mechanical engineer is helpful in ones personal life?

The former, mechanical engineers are involved in some way in every single physical object we have. From the keyboard you used to type the message, to the building you are sitting in.

In ones life, it would vary, but usually mechanical engineers have a pretty broad understanding on how things work which can be helpful when building or repairing things.

Art’s Answer

Engineer: Practical Scientist. Engineers use Scientific principals to build practical useable devices and tools, anything you can buy was touched by some sort of an engineer.
Mechanical: moving. Anything that you can buy and moves was touched by a mechanical engineer.
Even Buildings and other structures that don't move were built by tools and machines developed by engineers (and if built in the last century, mechanical engineer).
