How early did you start looking for internships? How did you find some? Is veterinary school as hard as they say? What do you love most about being a veterinarian?

Hi there! Though I'm not a veterinarian, I am a Registered Veterinary Technician with 30+ years of experience in veterinary medicine. The sooner you start to look for an internship, the better. I would recommend that you at least start looking as soon as you're done with your pre-vet school and have been accepted into a veterinary school. It never hurts to be proactive!
As far as how difficult vet school is... the rumors are true. Vet school is extremely difficult. It's not made to be difficult to keep people out. It's difficult to get into a vet school and then once you're in, the subject matter is hard. This is because, as a vet, you'll be responsible for the lives of pets after graduation. You'll learn everything about each species of animals, which can be daunting.
Again, not a vet, but working with animals is my true passion and calling in life. I enjoy when I can help an animal and their owner feel at ease about their pet's care. Of course, it doesn't hurt that I get to snuggle puppies and kittens sometimes as well!
If you haven't yet, it may be a good idea to speak personally with a vet before you commit to schooling. Contact a vet in your area and see if they will schedule a time to sit down with you so that you can ask these questions of them. This will help you get a better idea of what to expect in vet school!
I hope this helps!
