Hello Marc,
First off, kudos to you for demonstrating such focus and dedication at this stage in your high school journey! It's truly impressive. As some others have pointed out, volunteering at a doctor's office or hospital might be an excellent opportunity for you. Given your age, securing a paid role in the medical field can be challenging, but volunteering can offer valuable experience and insights.
I would also recommend seeking out a mentor or a seasoned professional in the medical field. This person doesn't necessarily have to be a doctor, just someone with experience who can provide answers to your queries. This could be an invaluable source of guidance and support as you navigate your path.
Lastly, consider joining or even initiating a club at school for like-minded students with an interest in the medical field. This could be a fantastic platform for exchanging resources, ideas, and information. Keep up the great work, Marc. Your proactive approach is commendable!

I think you should focus on volunteering, doing well on SAT, and keeping up your grades. If you can work at a doctor's office or even volunteering there, that would be great. Ideally, you should shadow a doctor but I don't think many doctors will let you because of your age. When you are in college, during the summer, I would work as a medical scribe. This allows you to make money, interact with doctors, and most importantly, see what a doctors does and ask yourself if you can do this.
Thank you for the advice!

I will tell you that the best thing would be to volunteer at your local hospital. Maybe, you can meet someone who will let you shadow them. Whatever you do, don't give up. Someone will see your desire and commitment and become your mentor.

Hey Marc! It's fantastic to see you planning ahead for your future at such an early stage. Internships for high school freshmen are a bit scarce. But don't let that discourage you! If you're still keen on pursuing this, I suggest you look up "pre-medical internships for high school students in my area" online. This search should give you a list of programs you can apply for. It's also a good idea to reach out to local clinics and hospitals to see if they have any internships or volunteering opportunities available.
Moreover, there are other activities you can engage in that, while not internships, can demonstrate your dedication to science and medicine. These activities can also give your resume a boost when internship season comes around in your junior year.
Such activities could be:
- Shadowing doctors to gain firsthand experience
- Volunteering at clinics or labs in your spare time
- Enrolling in as many science-related classes as you can
- Joining clubs that focus on science and medicine
Wishing you the best of luck on your journey!
