Hello Rei! As a music instructor, saxophonist, and a father, I assure you that parents always desire the best for their children. Now, regarding your dream, it's crucial to explore various options, hone your musical and singing abilities, and then evaluate the feasibility of your goal. It's also vital to understand the culture of K-pop singers and consider if you can be accepted within their community. Reflect on these aspects and stay on the right path!

Hey Rei!
This is a very unique question, and I will do my best to answer. I've had some experience in the music industry, particularly in K-pop, having collaborated with K-pop sensation "Red Velvet" on the song "Talk To Me" back in Feb 2017. From what I've learned, the industry is all about creating aesthetics and having a compelling story, supported by a strong team of designers, music producers, and writers. Understanding upcoming trends and connecting with your audience is also crucial.
I see you're in Fairfax, VA, not far from D.C. In this area, breaking into the K-pop industry might be challenging, but there are ways to carve out a sustainable path. Consider tapping into the video game culture or niche communities that can support your journey.
Start by finding a trusted group of friends who share your passion and skills. Collaborate with them to create your unique sound and showcase your talents through online performances and community engagements. Since your parents may not be supportive initially, focus on building social proof online and develop a solid business plan that outlines your goals, including merchandising and marketing strategies.
One effective approach could be to document your journey on YouTube, sharing the challenges you face and the progress you make. By building a supportive online community and demonstrating your dedication, you'll eventually gain the recognition and support you need to pursue your dream. Take action to learn and apply.
It's essential to learn the music business and understand how to create experiences that integrate with your school commitments. Develop a plan with actionable steps, and focus on finding your audience and leveraging their support. Posting cover songs and K-pop remakes, along with creating content and releasing music and merch, will help prove that your passion is more than just a hobby—it's a business with potential for success.
Best of luck on your journey to becoming a K-pop singer and joining the K-pop group!

I think your parents are just trying to tell you to keep your options open because there are many terrific jobs out there and they don't want you to close any doors that haven't been looked at because of the dream of being a K-pop singer. This is a good want in life, but I also think incase it doesn't work out you should keep your options open. Also, your parents don't always have to agree with you, but I think it's good to look at the expectations of joining a K-pop group and background information about it to present to your parents to maybe help them understand this is a passion for you.
I would ask to have a conversation with them privately
Talk about how you see their point of view in this
How this effects you emotionally
Why K-pop is so meaningful to you and why you want to do this for a living

Parents are always looking out for you even though it may not feel like that. Just keep up your chops and practice, practice, practice, your time will come and even when you least expect it. I know I will see you on stage soon and remember you can be a star and shine at any age.
