Software Engineering internships have become very competitive especially in the down market right now.
While the main stream job platforms like LinkedIn or Indeed might help, you should also see if any smaller companies or startups are looking for an intern. You can check out Wellfound (formerly known as AngelList Talent).
Another great way is to join local coding meetup groups and expand your network. You might run into internships/job opportunities with the people there.
Good luck!

Use LinkedIn’s job search feature to find internship opportunities in Brooklyn. Customize your search filters to match your specific interests in software engineering.
Networking: Engage with professional groups related to software engineering on LinkedIn. Participating in discussions and connecting with professionals in the field can provide valuable insights and potential leads.
2. Utilize Specialized Job Portals
Levels.fyi Internships: Visit https://www.levels.fyi/internships/ Internships to explore companies offering internships in software engineering. This platform provides links to the internship roles, including the pay rate information. This will help you understand which companies align with your career aspirations and financial expectations.

That's a great question! Here's how you can start working towards getting an internship in software engineering in Brooklyn:
1. Learn Programming:Start with basic programming languages like Python or JavaScript. Websites like Codecademy, Khan Academy, and Scratch are great places to begin. These courses are fun and will teach you the basics.
2. Create Projects: Try to build small projects, like a simple game or a website. This helps you practice what you've learned and gives you something to show when you apply for internships.
3. Research Local Companies: Brooklyn has many tech companies and startups. Look them up online and check their websites for internship opportunities. Companies often list openings in the "Careers" section of their sites.
4. Visit Tech Hubs: Brooklyn has tech hubs and coworking spaces, such as the Brooklyn Tech Triangle and Industry City. These places often host events and meetups where you can learn more and meet people who work in the tech industry.
5. Check with Libraries and Community Centers:Sometimes local libraries or community centers offer coding classes or host tech events. These can be excellent places to learn new skills and find out about local opportunities.
6. School and College Programs: Ask your teachers if they know about any programs or partnerships with tech companies. Local colleges and universities might also have special programs, camps, or events for students interested in coding.
7. Join Online Communities: Websites like Meetup.com have groups that organize tech events and workshops in Brooklyn. Joining these groups can help you learn more and meet people who can guide you towards internship opportunities.
8. Talk to Professionals:If you know someone who works in software engineering, ask them about their job and how they started. They might have advice or know about internships you can apply for.
Brooklyn is a great place with lots of opportunities in tech. Keep learning, stay curious, and don’t hesitate to ask for help. You're on the right track, and with some effort, you'll find an internship that's a perfect fit for you!

Hello Michael,
A hearty welcome to the Village! Kudos on taking the first step and posting your initial question!
Here are some promising strategies you might want to consider:
1. Explore online job platforms like Indeed, Glassdoor, and others. Focus your search on internships in Brooklyn. Don't forget, there are also many remote opportunities available, so you're not confined to one area unless you have a preference for face-to-face collaboration.
2. Leverage school resources: As a student, make the most of career services if they're accessible at your educational institution.
3. Networking: Engage in person or utilize LinkedIn to establish connections with professionals in your field of interest for potential opportunities.
4. Speculative application: Don't hold back from submitting applications, complete with a resume and cover letter, to companies that catch your eye, even if they haven't advertised any intern positions. Remember, you won't know unless you give it a shot.
Best of luck on your journey!
