To find what works best for you, ask yourself...Can I see me doing this as a career? Will this make me happy? Is it worth spending my time in this field? What is it that I want to reach as a goal in this position? Money isn't always the answer. Sometimes, it may be something more meaningful for yourself that can help make this decision.
Being in the food industry was not what I would have stated was my goal. Art was what I was reaching for but then I found that I can do both. As a cake decorator, I am involving my artist side and making people happy. The pay is a ladder situation.
Do what you want to do without compromising your integrity.
Sometimes you have to do some not so meaningful jobs to get to the point where you may want to finally make more sense in what your career is.
Hope this helped.

Obviously the best occupation is firefighting!
You're not stuck behind a desk inside all day.
You get to be a part of the community
You get to help people in their time of need
The adrenaline keeps you on your toes
You get paid to eat, sleep, and workout
Kids love firefighters
You're part of profession that prioritizes mental and physical health
Most of your shifts are 24 or 48-hours long, which kind of makes every weekend a 4-day weekend
Many of us still have pensions
Fire is cool
Abundant opportunities to specialize (training, HAZMAT, EMS, technical rescue, wildland, prevention, arson investigation, etc.)
Promotional opportunities (firefighters, engineers, lieutenants, captains, battalion chiefs, division/district/deputy/assistant chiefs, etc.
As far as how it works, everywhere may be slightly different, but here you come in to work at 7am, check out all your equipment to be sure it's good to go, do some training, maybe a little program work, get in a workout, etc. Around 5 or 6 o'clock we eat dinner together, maybe watch a little TV or play some games, then go to bed (all on the clock and responding to respond to emergency calls as they happen). Repeat the same thing the next day. Then you do a shift change at 7am, and you're off for 4 days. Firefighting is a team activity, so you will be with the 3-6 other people at your firehouse at all times during that 48-hour shift. Hence why there is so much camaraderie in the fire service...we're like family because we literally live together 1/3 of the time, and trust each other with our lives.
Lots of hard work, challenging but rewarding, and a ton of fun.
