I totally resonate with you Vincent. When I was 8, I always dreamt of being a professional soccer player. It is definitely challenging but nothing is impossible.

Practical advice - to be a professional soccer player, you need to be skillful. You probably need two things to assess yourself and move inch closer to your dream:
1) Get coaching sessions - not only to grow your skills but to get an advice of where you stand as a soccer player and if your talent can get recognized
2) Look out for clubs offering tryouts. Most of them are free. Try giving a shot.

But remember - Soccer is a beautiful game. Enjoy every moment while you're at it.
I'm 32 and I play soccer every week. Even if I couldn't be a professional player, just playing soccer makes me feel alive.

Joe’s Answer

Playing at a professional level is any sport is extremely challenging and the odds of success are slim for the average person.
You will need to start dedicating very early many hours of structured practice including playing in leagues regularly and if possible you should get professional coaching as early as possible in your career.

Normally you would strive to play at a collegiate level and get immediate benefits if you succeed there (like a scholarship).
From there you could look to play in the many minor leagues that exist and eventually moving up to the highest level in the profession if your talent and dedication to excellence takes you there.

Keep in mind estimate less than 1% of the millions of WW soccer players are professional level players...so the odds of success are not good for the average person who plays the sport. So hedge your bets and get a degree that you can use in case you can't make a living playing soccer.

Good luck
