A bachelor's degree is a 4-year undergraduate program while a doctorates degree is a postgraduate degree after attending two more years of graduate school. While a bachelor's degree is needed for a general understanding of a field and sufficient for most jobs, fields in research, theory and university-level teaching require a doctorates/ PHD degree.

The educational ladder in the U.S. is:
3K - Pre-K
K-12
Associates degree (2 yrs) - A.A./A.S.
Bachelors degree (Associates + 2) - BA/BS
Masters degree (~1-3 yrs) - MA/MS
Doctorate degree (~4-6 yrs) - PhD, EdD, PsyD, etc.
An institute is single-industry school dedicated to research or teaching. A college is a school that teaches many different subjects that could prepare you for many different industries. A university is made up of a bunch of colleges that share resources.
These definitions are my opinion - how I understand the differences.

A bachelor's degree is a 4 year degree that you pursue straight out of high school. A doctorates degree usually requires several years of education beyond a bachelor's degree and involves completion of independent research and a dissertation.

Great question! - I used to personally wonder something similar when it came to choosing between a Master degree and Doctorates degree. Coming back to your question, bachelor's is a degree you would pursue to learn from the vast knowledge that is tried and tested and applied actively in the industry. In Doctorates program, the focus of the eduction is towards using your vast knowledge along with a educator to work on some new ground breaking research that helps progress the industry.
