Tom’s Answer

That's a tough question to answer with a definitive direction since being creative leaves you open to a lot of things in life. Do you enjoy photography, sculpting, writing, or any other creative display out there? It's up to you to define your creative talent and what direction you want to take with it. But the best answer to give you, or one of them at least, is to determine where your skill set lies, since that will help to hone your interest and set you on the right path.

Who knows, you might be gifted in a few ways and can make a living as a multitalented creative. That'd be pretty cool.

Find your skill set and your direction will become a little clearer. Best of luck to you.

Kimberly’s Answer

Creativity is saturated with photography, dance, creative writing, painting… it really depends on which route you’re looking to take. Being one who has loved the arts, you just need to dip your foot in the water and see which one really feels like a passion. If it's not, don't pursue it. The arts are fiercely competitive, especially with the internet full of sites or tools to help build a portfolio. The other thing to think about is the financial aspect. You'll have to buy materials or equipment to get yourself started and pursue it to make the income worth the investment of your your time and money. Make connections to help you exchange ideas and information about the field your lookoing into and where to purchase your starting needs. Some people may tell you to give up on creativity, a pipe dream, but it's an extension of your inner child that needs fostered and nurtured. Make sure you have a thick skin to endure the trials and error you may encounter.

Urooj’s Answer

The great thing about being a creative is that your skills are not limited to one specific role! However, many creatives typically enjoy jobs where they are able to express themselves and their ideas, therefore jobs within Marketing, Advertising, Photography and the Film Industry would be the best fit.

I think Marketing is a really great starting point because you can choose from a range of different roles within the Marketing industry. From being a Product Marketing Manager to a Social Media Manager, the opportunities really are endless.

I would suggest reading a bunch of different job descriptions and seeing which tasks excite you the most. Best of luck!!

Erica’s Answer

What a great question! There are so many opportunities to be creative in a job. I would start with what form/medium of creativity is your favorite and then search for people who use that in their job. When I want to pursue something in my career, I like to look at who out there is already doing it and what path did they take. You do not necessarily have to follow the same path, but it can give you ideas about what is possible and give some direction. Good luck!

Hi Neville!

Great question!

It depends on what type of creative you want to become.

If you are going the social media route, I would look at some creatives doing well in that area.

Check out Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.

If you're an artist, digital artist, commercial artist, or work in mixed media, check out calls for submissions and the websites of galleries and artist foundations.

Use Google to help with your research.

Good luck!

Liz’s Answer

There are so many different options that you could pursue - what's best for you will depend on what kind of creative muscles you want to flex! Are you artistically creative? Do you want to create something with an output (for example, paintings, pottery, music) or do you want to use creative thinking to solve problems (for example, scientific research, business problems, engineering problems)? Your answer to those two questions would help determine the right next steps.

If you're not sure exactly what aspect of creative work you want to pursue, there are several different sites that offer free career quizzes that you might want to check out. One can be found at the Princeton Review: https://www.princetonreview.com/quiz/career-quiz. Take a look at the potential career paths based on your answers in the quiz, see what feels right, and then create a plan of attack to pursue that path.
