Interest and skill in math and science is very important to careers in forensic science. There 31 colleges that offer a bachelor’s degree in forensic science--some of the top ones nearer to NYC are Penn State at University Park and Syracuse University. However, as an undergraduate, it usually make more sense to major in chemistry, biology, or physics, which will open up more job opportunities after graduation.
As you think about selecting colleges and you're interested in forensic science, you shouldn't necessarily only apply to colleges with forensic science majors. Instead, you should look at college that have strong programs in science--where you can take high quality courses in biology, physics, chemistry, pharmacology, statistics, and get lab experience.
There are more forensic science programs at the graduate level (masters degree), and those require chemistry, biology, physics training from your undergraduate institutions. In these masters programs, you should look for programs that offer certification from organizations like the American Board of Criminalists, the American College of Forensic Examiners, etc.
