Godfrey’s Answer

Good question
Dietician basically do counselling patients or clients on the ideal nutritional requirements for their health based on the disease or their health plans, its not a must to be ill to seek dietician services.
This requires the dietician to possess good qualities in interpersonal relation, communication skills, counselling skills, mentoring skills, presentation skills it might also require one to multiple languages since you may have clients who speak different languages to widen your clientele based.
Good knowledge on both anatomy, physiology and biochemistry is key for dietician as they will be counselling clients and it might require alot of explanation on food relationship with the absorption, digestion, and metabolism.
One should be audible, clear, and precise with good articulation of there topic or area of counselling.
One also needs to master the core counselling skills.
I believe those are some of the skills one would require apart from the college education and certification for dieticians

Siri’s Answer

Hi Jared,
I agree with Godfrey that counseling skills are very important for a dietitian.
Listening skills and being able to assess where the client is coming from in terms of nutrition/diet history, exercise history and overall health history are important. Working well with other health care professionals is also important, especially in the inpatient clinical setting. Being open to different career paths is important. When I was finishing my undergraduate nutrition degree I did not think I would work in either weight
loss or inpatient clinical settings. Over the 33 years I have been a dietitian, I have worked in weight loss, public health, inpatient clinical, outpatient clinical and assisted living settings.

Sana’s Answer

The first and foremost thing is to be skilled in your field. You should have a firm grip on patient consultation, understanding patient's condition and goals, diet planning.
A good dietitian should also have good communication skills in order to better communicate the patients.
You must have vast knowledge about human physiology and biochemistry to understand health conditions and biochemical parameters because a dietitian is not just about diet, it's about careful management of patient's health condition and diet planning to overcome a certain disease or to achieve a particular fitness goal.
Thank uh, i hope my answer will be helpful for you.
