It depends what kind of EMT you want to be because there are different levels. EMT-B, EMT-P and some states (like mine, WV) have EMT-M, etc. Each one requires different types of training. EMT-B (Basic) usually takes about 6 months and EMT-P (Paramedic) takes about 2 years to get certified.
You can usually find training courses at local community colleges. You will need to learn First Aid, get your CPR license, get your ALS (advanced life support) certification, etc. Training is usually given at community colleges or vocational colleges.
