Martha’s Answer

I commend you, Oscar, for asking this question so far ahead of applying to college. Isabel has given you sound advice, and I have added several links from UT about the major and the admissions process. A few additional thoughts:

- It is to your advantage from admissions and financial perspectives to apply to the University of Texas
- It is good to learn from other people's experiences, but please remember that only you can decide if this major is a good fit for you . That is why I encourage you to review the links I have sent and compare the program with other business/finance undergraduate programs
- If you really like UT-Austin (I, too, have heard wonderful things about it) but have concerns about the finance major, remember that there are 9 other business majors. Some people interested in business study economics as undergraduates, which is outside of McComb.

Good luck!

Isabel’s Answer

Hello Oscar,

The finance program at the University of Texas at Austin is renowned for its excellence and is known to pave the way for successful careers in fields such as finance, investment banking, and consulting. Its value is unquestionable, attributed to its top-notch faculty, opportunities for networking, and robust recruitment by leading firms.

To secure admission, it's crucial to focus on several key areas. Firstly, strive to maintain a high-grade point average. Secondly, excel in advanced mathematics courses, as they are often a critical part of the finance curriculum. Lastly, involve yourself in extracurricular activities related to finance, as this could give you a competitive edge.

When it comes to enhancing your application, consider the following tips: develop a compelling resume that highlights your skills and achievements, seek out leadership roles that demonstrate your potential, and invest time in preparing for standardized tests to ensure a good score.

Finally, don't underestimate the value of engaging with current students or alumni. Their insights and advice can provide invaluable guidance as you navigate the application process.
