Hello, Kaleigh !

Is the information for you or "for someone" else ? I would like to share some advice for anyone that is majoring in Early Childhood Development. Internships are usually offered to students when they have been in the ECD program for a while. Your college major department would be aware of any Internships. For now, I would say that since you are just beginning, the best bet would be to seek Volunteer Work instead of an internship. An Internship is for students or a recent graduate that undergoes supervised practical training. A quicker way to get involved working for children would be to volunteer at services for children. They are usually quite busy, and these agencies would love the extra help from someone and you may even take on responsibilities as a volunteer that you'd never expected and it could teach you many valuable skills.

If your college doesn't provide a listing of volunteer work agencies, you can look for them online in your local area. I've left a link to a list for you below that has some Child Day Care Centers at which you can inquire about volunteer work. Another realm you can seek volunteer work at would be social services that serve children and teens. Research online these agencies for possible volunteer work in your area: Midtown Family Services in San Jose, Estrella Family Services in San Jose, Parents Helping Parents- clients are children and parents, Santa Clara County Social Services Agency serves San Jose and Santa Clara County. Also check out Teens Reach Community Service at the link that I have provided for you below. A lot of their activities are connected to the hobbies you have mentioned, aligning with the Library and Crafting.

There are so many volunteer opportunities so this is a good time to explore all possibilities. When you are in your Junior or Senior year at college, that is when you will most likely find out about college referrals for Internships, but for now, volunteer work can be one of the most valuable experiences you can have.

I hope that this is helpful in getting you started and I wish you all the best moving forward !

Hi Kaleigh!

To find internships in early child development you should check with your college's career services department. They should be able to give you resources for internships. Looking online at LinkedIn and Indeed will also be helpful. You will be able to filter results and network with professionals in the field. Connecting with peers for potential opportunities is always a good place to start.

Remember to customize your application materials and highlight your interest in early child development. Good luck!
