What company I should I look into?
I'm coming from Lincoln Tech electrical and want a business management degree to become project manager in the future. I want a commercial wiring position with good pay while in college and I'd like to either work full time and go to college part time or vise versa.

Hi Devin,
Project Management can span many different practice areas. Having an interest in Project Management means that you really enjoy identifying gaps, proposing solutions, and overseeing the completion of said solutions. If those are skills you enjoy the most, I would consider exploring what all Project Management has to offer even if it may be outside of Commercial Wiring. If that practice area is for sure your passion, you may want to ask yourself if traditional higher education (i.e. College) is the way to go, as going for trade experience in electrical may be more conducive toward your interests.
If you indeed find other practice areas for Project Management outside of Commercial Wiring, I would recommend business the Business Management degree you mentioned, and then looking into advanced PM certifications like CAPM and PMP. These in addition to your degree would set you up to pursue PM in so many different industries while providing hightened job security and greater chances of having your pay range be at a higher baseline.

Devin, thank you for your clear idea of the career you want. Project management is a great skill to have. I recently passed the PMP (Project Management Professional) exam and now I have my certification. It definitely makes a person more marketable. For this certification, you have to complete classes (requirements vary by education levels), submit a dossier of your project experience, and then you take a 4 hour test. I suggest studying for 2-3 months to be able to pass it the first time. I found that the training doesn't match the questions on the test, so reading and taking practice exams prepared me well.
Good luck with your career! We always need more technicians, so you've selected a great career path!

1. **Electrical Contracting Firms:** You might be interested in companies like Rosendin Electric or M.C. Dean.
2. **Construction & Engineering Companies:** AECOM and Turner Construction are great places to consider.
3. **Utility Companies:** Duke Energy and National Grid are also worth looking into.
4. **Facilities Management Companies:** Check out companies like CBRE and JLL.
5. **Tech & Data Centers:** Big names like Google and Amazon Web Services could be exciting options.
