I was a dental assistant as I worked my way through college. It was a way to earn a livable wage while still going to college. I enjoyed the fact that every day is different and it wasn't a monotonous job. I learned so much which made going to dental school so much easier. You can take dental assisting and translate it into going to school to become a hygienist, dentist, or lab tech. Or you can grow from dental assistant into a managerial or sales role. There is quite a bit of versatility.

Everything! 53 years in this career. It's been amazing. From general dentistry to Orthodontics. Office manager to Dental Assistant Supervisor of a team of 8. There is so much to this career. It takes a certain type of individual. If love making people smile and you are passionate about what you do it's one of the most rewarding things I've done in life. The relationships you form with your patients is everything. At the end of the day you know you are where you should be. Orthodontics are my favorite. Watching the young people change as they go through treatment is so rewarding. They come in with a frown and go out where they can't stop smiling. And now I supervise 8 ladies who are incredibly talented. We fill teeth, clean teeth and just about everything else. My job is now Federal. I would completely recommend this. If I had started here retirement would look very different. But all in all what a fabulous career. Like anything else, it's what you make it. Good luck and enjoy!
