What are sororities like?
I've always heard about them, but I never really understood what they are, or what it is like to be in one. #sorority

Estelle’s Answer
My niece just joined a sorority, and she has been very pleased with her decision. She had the opportunity to meet many like-minded young women early in her college career. That took a lot of the pressure off of her to make friends. She enjoys the social events and the built-in support system that her sorority has given her.

Anchalee’s Answer
I am in a sorority. My sorority is Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. We are a sisterhood and service based organization. What that means is that everything that we do is strongly built on sisterly activities/relationships/growth/development and/or giving back to the community. I pledged my sorority while in college and I have to say that it was a really great experience. I loved it and it taught me a lot about being a woman and uplifting other women. It also taught me that service and giving back to my community is very important as well.

I joined a sorority while in college, and am proud to say that I'm still an actively engaged member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. As Anchalee noted above, we are a service based volunteer organization and a sisterhood. Joining a sorority definitely enhanced my college experience and has benefitted me post-college socially, professionally, and personally (enrichment).
