Can a student under h-4 (or f-1) visa become a Environmental lawyer ?
I am currently 16 years old, in 11th grade. I'm from India which lessens my chance for green card but wondering if I will be able to continue my career here.

Hello Pranav,
I don't believe it would be possible under a H-4 visa because you have to leave or adjust status once you turn 21, and the youngest lawyers are usually 24-25 (21 to graduate college, 3 years of law school), but it is possible on the F-1 visa to graduate with a JD degree. You would then likely have to get a valid work sponsorship visa (i.e., H-1B) or marry a US Citizen and adjust status to a green card holder/ permanent resident. I'd recommend contacting an immigration lawyer to better understand the steps required to fulfil your dream!
I am not your lawyer, this is not legal advice.

Thanks for the info! I will definitely contact a layer. One follow-up question though, do law firms even sponsor environmental lawyers, and is environmental law considered a specialized field for the gov?

Hi Pranav,
It is possible to obtain H-4 work authorization to work in any role, however you would need to be married to an H-1B visa holder that has an I-140 approval (second stage of the green card process). It sounds like your a bit young for that. Ultimately, and assuming your main H-1B parent does not obtain PR status and grandfather you in, would be to attend school in F-1 status, then obtain H-1B status. Sponsorship for an attorney is possible in H-1B status.
