Thank you comment icon Hello Danielle, college can be very expensive especially if you are paying out of pocket. Here are a few affordable colleges you can look into for your career path, University of California-Irvine, Texas A & M University-College Station, University of Minnesota-Duluth. Here is a link for additional colleges you can look into. https://www.collegeaffordabilityguide.org/subjects/education/. Applying for scholarships can help you in paying for college as well. Devetra
Thank you comment icon Hi Danielle, I lived in Illinois for over 30 years and attended school in WI I am currently in California with my family. Have you considered a small private school where there is more one on one attention and small group instruction for students? I got my Masters at Roosevelt University in Chicago and I also heard that UIC and University of Urbana Champaign have excellent teaching programs. There are a number of scholarships you can apply for https://opportunity.collegeboard.org/?ef_id=EAIaIQobChMIt9Lfhcqm7wIV8SCtBh3Fpgs-EAAYBCAAEgIMi_D_BwE:G:s&s_kwcid=AL!4330!3!491342999457!e!!g!!scholarships!1619150383!65540563143&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIt9Lfhcqm7wIV8SCtBh3Fpgs-EAAYBCAAEgIMi_D_BwE Lubna Humayun

Danielle, because you are paying for your own education, you should be very discerning in how you spend your money. I would talk to elementary ed professionals in the area where you hope to work and find out schools that they recommend. Check the schools job placement success rate, specifically for elementary ed majors, research "best college value for the money" for elementary ed majors, ensure the college matches your values and personality, review their programs and stats for student teaching opportunities. You'll want to make sure they have really robust programs and strong links to the communities. You should also reach out to the schools around the college and see what the relationship is like there as well. Good luck!

Leahanne recommends the following next steps:

Talk to educators in the community where you want to teach.
Research best value for the money.
get job placement stats from the school for elementary ed majors.
make sure the school matches your values and personality and learning style.

I would recommend focusing on affordability. If you've got equally affordable colleges, try and visit the campuses to see which ones feel like a good fit. It's a good idea to keep an eye out for advertisement and fliers while you're on campus. You can often discover things about a campus that you wouldn't be able to discover on the company website.
