Hello, Lillian !
Well, I would like to give some advice and I am glad you are here to ask us about this.
In your senior year in high school, you can apply to MIT's Engineering program and when you get accepted, MIT has some scholarships meant for students that are enrolled there. You can find out about those by either phoning them or visiting the campus once you are there. There are also many other scholarships that you can apply for that would help you with your costs as well as applying for Federal Financial Aid. Right now may not be the time to apply for scholarships yet you certainly can read more about them and have a heads up for the time you can begin applying for them.
I am really sorry to tell you that there's no such thing as being a "part time actress" . The nature of being in acting is that you will have to be prepared, and able to be anywhere at anytime for any length of time. This would not mix well with a career in Engineering simply due to the time conflicts acting has with probably almost any simultaneous career. But you can get some acting in now while you are in high school since you love it.
You will also need to love reading to become an actress and for that matter, there's a great deal of reading for the Engineering path, too. As an actor, you have to be able to cold read at auditions if asked, comprehend and interpret plays or audition material and any acting material and feel words. So reading is an immense part of acting. Being a college student does demand much reading as well no matter what one majors in.
I know that you are 1,572 miles away from your choice of college - Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, MA - but between now and your senior year, you should ask your parents if they could accompany you there so you can see the college before you apply. It's fine if you can't visit, but you should familiarize yourself with the school right now and explore the Engineering Department as well as all services and what is available to the students. This is a time that you can focus on feeling a bit more familiar with the actual college. Keep notes about it, too, such as the tuition for out of state students, required courses expected from incoming freshman, and any other cool stuff that MIT has to offer. They have a website and I have left the link to it below. They have videos on You Tube also for quick tours and I left three links for you below.
When you are ready to apply for Scholarships for colleges, there are many websites that carry information for it. Some of these websites that you can read would be Scholarships dot com, Fast Web, Going Merry, Scholly, BigFuture, Raise Me, Appily, Niche, Unigo, and Scholarship360. Bookmark these websites so that you can return to them when it's time for you to apply. There are many more websites and resources that you can find by doing a search online. Your guidance counselor can also refer you to some scholarships.
I hope that this is helpful and I wish you all the best !

Acting requires much time for rehearsals, auditions, shooting and studio sessions I should as Engineering requires much commitment of time.
You may choose to specialized all on one.
Prepare for your general education diploma in sciences with good grades in STEM for a first year admission.
Take a baccalaureate or associate degree program in engineering for a direct entry admission.
You can apply through collegeboard.com. Some colleges take direct applications. Search from the admissions, financial aid, grants, scholarships, funding tab to search for opportunities, requirements and eligibility for funding.
You have to prepare your applications based on the directions in your college or university of interest.

Hi, Below is a link but you really want to visit the campus to make sure you like it and can be there 4+ years. Also talk to the students it is not like other campus or student life. You will be considered by just applying. You might need to get a separate sort of education outside of MIT for your acting or do both at MIT.

Hi Lillian, you asked a very good question. Both Engineering and Acting (Theatrical Arts) are great choices. Because you are considering MIT for engineering, the first thing you need to do is to discuss your plans with your parents; they will help you to decide if MIT is a good choice for you.
Once you have decided, you need to know what is required to get scholarships at MIT. Again, your parents can help you to get the information. By the time you are in senior high, you will be doing a lot of the correspondence while your parents are supervising you.
To study both acting and engineering, you will need to consider a university that provides both programs. You can consider a major in engineering and a minor in acting. Because you are considering part-time work in acting, it is better as a minor field of study. However, I don't know if you can work as a part-time actor. You will need to discuss this with your parents as well.
I wish you all the best,
Solomon

Hello Lillian!
Steps to Work Towards a Scholarship to MIT for Engineering
1. Understand MIT’s Admission Requirements: To secure a scholarship at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), it is crucial to understand their admission requirements. MIT looks for students who excel academically, particularly in mathematics and science. A strong GPA, especially in advanced courses such as AP or IB classes, is essential. Additionally, standardized test scores (SAT/ACT) are considered, although MIT has adopted a test-optional policy recently.
2. Focus on Mathematics and Science: Since you enjoy math, continue to excel in this subject while also strengthening your knowledge in related fields like physics and chemistry. Participate in math competitions or clubs that can enhance your skills and demonstrate your passion for the subject.
3. Engage in Extracurricular Activities: Involvement in extracurricular activities can significantly bolster your application. Join engineering-related clubs or organizations at school, such as robotics teams or science fairs. This not only showcases your interest but also provides practical experience that is valuable for an engineering career.
4. Seek Leadership Opportunities: Taking on leadership roles within these extracurricular activities can further enhance your profile. Whether it’s leading a project in a club or organizing events, demonstrating leadership skills is important for MIT admissions.
5. Build a Strong Portfolio: If you have interests in acting alongside engineering, consider how you can integrate both passions into your portfolio. Participate in theater productions while also working on engineering projects or internships that showcase your technical skills.
6. Research Scholarships: Investigate specific scholarships available for students pursuing engineering at MIT or other institutions. Many organizations offer scholarships based on merit, need, or specific criteria related to engineering fields.
7. Prepare Your Application Materials: When the time comes to apply, ensure that your application materials—such as essays and recommendation letters—reflect both your academic achievements and personal interests effectively. Highlight how you plan to balance both acting and engineering in your future career.
8. Network with Professionals: Connecting with professionals in both fields can provide insights and guidance on how to navigate dual careers effectively. Attend workshops, seminars, or networking events related to engineering and acting.
9. Stay Informed About Financial Aid Options: Familiarize yourself with financial aid options available at MIT beyond scholarships, including grants and work-study programs that may help fund your education.
By following these steps diligently and maintaining a balanced focus on both academics and extracurricular activities related to engineering and acting, you will be well-prepared to pursue a scholarship at MIT.
