How can I best prep my self to afford Medical school ?
I am a High School Junior in NC, I am on an H-4 visa (dependent on my dad). I currently have a weighted GPA of 3.7 (on track to have a 4.2 by the end of the year).
After doing some cost calculations I found out about the massive student debt that comes with pursuing medicine (or potentially law). Admittedly it is a bit scary but I'm trying my best to navigate this situation the best I can.
Are there any potential scholarships or aid given out to people in my situation

First, focus on maintaining and improving your GPA, as strong academic performance will make you more competitive for scholarships and programs. Getting involved in extracurricular activities, especially those related to healthcare or community service, can also strengthen your application.
Since you're on an H-4 visa, you may face limitations with some federal financial aid, but there are still scholarship opportunities available. Look for organizations that offer scholarships specifically for international students or those on dependent visas. Many medical schools also have their own scholarship programs, so researching individual schools can be beneficial.
Additionally, consider applying for scholarships from private organizations, local foundations, or professional associations related to medicine. Websites like Fastweb and Cappex can help you find scholarships tailored to your background and interests.
As you get closer to applying, look into loan repayment programs that can help offset student debt after graduation, such as those offered through certain employers in public service or healthcare.
Staying informed about your options and planning ahead will help you navigate the financial aspects of medical school. You've got this!

Your first step should be having a chat with your high school guidance counselor. They can help you explore scholarships that are available for students with visas and with your GPA.
Begin your journey by identifying schools that appeal to you and investigate the scholarships they provide. Your future in medicine is bright and full of potential. Keep going!
LESLEY recommends the following next steps:
Go to the library and research how to get grants for school
research the schools you're interested in applying and see if they offer scholarships
