Jennifer’s Answer

It really depends on what you do. If you learn Linux, Cloud Technology and a some programming languages and tools you can push your numbers up pretty far. If you are just maintaining the security of an on premise network and keeping software patched you will likely be on the lower end of the pay scale. You can see this in the difference between a Cloud Security Engineer, Platform Security Engineer or maybe IT Security Specialist. These roles could have very different salary structures.

Patrick’s Answer

Hi Nathanael,

Cybersecurity is a very in demand position in today's job market. When considering Cybersecurity pay, it is helpful to consider the location where the job will be performed. Despite remote and flexible work options, employers often consider cost of living as a part of your compensation package. The websites above are all good starting points; however, beyond salary and pay, I would recommend considering the skillsets that would make you standout in Cybersecurity or any field. A lot of salary information are averages, but being in the top 10% of your field will often compensate you at a much higher rate compared to the average.

I hope this helps.

Aidan’s Answer

Sure, I'd be happy to help clarify this for you! The answer to your question could vary based on several things. First, your own skills and qualifications come into play. Next, the size of the business you're dealing with matters, as does how much they value their security. Finally, where you're located in the world could also influence the answer. So, it's a bit of a tricky question without some more specifics.

Joe’s Answer

Hey Nathanael, the salary scale in the cybersecurity field can greatly differ depending on the specific job role you're eyeing. For instance, someone working in sales within cybersecurity might have a different income compared to a security analyst who deals with code. Your level of experience also plays a significant role. The cybersecurity sector is a thrilling place to be, offering promising salary prospects and job security, especially as the world continues to shift towards digitization.

I suggest you check out websites like Glassdoor, where you can find salary ranges for different industries and roles. LinkedIn job listings also often provide the salary range for specific job postings.

In terms of breaking into the field, the path can also differ based on the job role. While many roles prefer candidates with a degree higher than high school, it's not always a must-have. Industry certifications such as CompTIA's Security+ are gaining popularity as a way to demonstrate your technical skills, whether you have a degree or not.

Whatever CyberSecurity gets paid now is likely to significantly increase as the years go by. This is not only becoming an increasingly popular industry, its also becoming a significantly in demand industry as cyber security becomes an increasingly important part of our nations security and a focus in other industries as well. I work in accounting and we are already seeing the SEC and other boards require an understanding of the cybersecurity at companies. As this requirement expands, so will the need for good cyber security majors. I think this is a high paying career path in the next ten years.
