Hi my name is Bella. I recently have had interest in cosmetology. I'm not sure how much money a cosmetologist makes. Especially if I open up my own salon.

Hi, Bella! It's nice to hear about your interest in cosmetology. The income of a cosmetologist can vary significantly depending on factors such as location, experience, and whether you work for someone else or own your own salon.
In the United States, the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) reported that as of May 2023, the average annual salary for cosmetologists was approximately $30,000 to $40,000. However, this can vary greatly depending on where you work.
Cosmetologists in large cities or richer areas tend to earn more than in rural areas. In states such as California and New York, wages are often higher due to the cost of living and the demand for beauty services.
However, as in many other professions, more experienced cosmetologists may demand higher prices for their services, thereby increasing their potential earnings.
If you decide to open your own beauty salon, your potential income can increase significantly, but it also comes with additional responsibilities and risks. Your earnings will depend on factors such as the number of customers you serve, the services you offer and the quality of your salon management. Successful beauty salon owners can earn significant income, but it is important to note that it may take time to attract loyal customers and financially stabilize the business.
In general, a career in cosmetology can be useful both creatively and financially, especially if you are willing to make efforts to develop your skills and business. With love, Darya
