Aaron’s Answer
Do you mean a medical assistant or a medical administrator? A medical assistant program may be able to be completed in as little as 4 months in some limited online programs to requiring a two-year Associates degree. It just depends on what you are wanting to do with it and what the programs include. Medical Administrators often require at least a four year degree and some require a Masters.
Some things a medical assistant might do:
- Recording patient’s medical history
- Taking and recording vital signs
- Drawing blood and collecting lab specimens
- Sterilizing equipment and maintaining examination rooms
- Administering injections and some medications
- Providing limited wound care
- Performing electrocardiograms and basic radiography
- Conducting inventory and ordering equipment and supplies
- Managing patient scheduling
- Communicating with patients about tests, procedure preparation, and aftercare
