Hi Weitong!
As a former volunteer, I think that it is a good thing to be enrolled as a volunteer. But you have to answer by yourself, a series of questions
1- Why to you want to be enrolled as a volunteer?
2- What do you know concretely about volunteering?
3- How useful do you think you can be to the community you want to volunteer for?
4- Is there any link between your studies and the volunteering job you want to do.
5- And finally, do you actually love volunteering at all?
If these questions are truly answered, you can therefore find a way to cope your volunteering service to studies indeed.
Good luck indeed!

Hello Weitong!

Guide to Participating in a Volunteer Program

Participating in a volunteer program can be a fulfilling journey, particularly for high school students aiming to enrich their college applications and acquire essential skills. Here's a simplified guide on how you can get involved in a volunteer program:

1. Discover Your Interests and Skills

Given your fondness for math, physics, and chemistry, consider exploring volunteer opportunities that mirror these passions. You might discover programs that include tutoring younger students in these disciplines or engaging in science exhibitions.

2. Investigate Local Entities

Initiate your search by investigating local non-profit entities, community hubs, schools, or universities that provide volunteer programs. Websites such as VolunteerMatch can assist you in finding opportunities tailored to your location and interests.

3. Utilize School Resources

Numerous high schools form alliances with local entities for volunteer activities. Consult your guidance counselor or explore your school’s website for any updates regarding volunteer opportunities.

4. Ready Your Application Documents

Certain volunteer programs might necessitate an application or interview process. Compile a resume spotlighting your academic accomplishments and any prior volunteering experiences (if any). A concise cover letter expressing your enthusiasm for the program can also be advantageous.

5. Connect with Organizations

Once you've pinpointed potential entities, connect with them directly via email or phone. Show your interest in volunteering and ask about open positions or forthcoming events where you could contribute.

6. Participate in Orientation or Training Sessions

If welcomed into a program, you may need to participate in an orientation session where you’ll gain more insight about the entity's mission and your precise role as a volunteer.

7. Dedicate Yourself to Your Role

Upon joining, ensure to dedicate yourself completely to your duties as a volunteer. This not only aids the entity but also boosts your own skills and experiences.

8. Contemplate Your Experience

After finishing your volunteering period, allocate some time to contemplate what you’ve gained and how it has influenced you personally and academically.

By adhering to these steps, you can effectively participate in a volunteer program that corresponds with your interests in math, physics, and chemistry while positively impacting your community.

Hi Weitong!

Stepping into the world of volunteering can be a fantastic way to gain invaluable experience. Start by asking yourself - why do I want to volunteer? Is it to acquire new skills? If that's the case, I can assure you, it's a decision you won't regret!

There's a wealth of volunteer opportunities waiting for you! I've had the pleasure of volunteering at events like Anime Impulse and the Chalk Festival.

If you're on LinkedIn, it's a great platform to explore. Simply head over to the 'jobs' section, type in 'careervillage' and you're all set to apply - it's as simple as eating a slice of cake!

Don't forget, there are numerous other websites that list volunteering opportunities.

I hope this advice is helpful to you!
Best,
William
