DENNIS’s Answer

Hi Maria Jose: As a 9th grader I would suggest that at this point just be a kid! Take the courses you enjoy and learn as much as you can! The best lawyers are the well rounded ones who have a well rounded base. Courses in Political Science, History, English seem to be the most common - due to the reading and writing needed to be a lawyer. However, there are tons of lawyers with science degrees and from every field. In short, be yourself. Grow and learn. Have fun and enjoy school.
As to jobs, you can do pretty much anything. I was a trial lawyer for 45 years. I like going to Court. Not everyone does - most hate it. But I know lawyers who just do taxes, administer different organizations. I know one sportscaster and several news reporters who are lawyers. Again, a law degree is just a degree. It's what you want to do with that degree that is important.
As a 9th grader you have a long road ahead. Enjoy yourself. Go to a courthouse and watch what goes on. Talk to the lawyers and the judges and get as much information as you can. Life takes many twists and turns. Live, learn and enjoy!
