While it's not a strict requirement, having prior experience can certainly boost your chances of securing the job and enhance your performance once you're in the role. This experience can also help you earn the trust and respect of the drivers you're managing, as they'll know you understand the challenges they face from your own firsthand experience. Remember, there are also other roles within the transportation industry that don't involve driving. These positions could provide valuable experience and prepare you for a leadership role in the future.

Ani’s Answer

To be a transportation manager, it's not required that you drive first, although being a driver will give you that experience and insight when you are in a management position. If you start as a driver, you can work your way up to a management position as well. However, if that doesn't interest you, getting a degree or certification in a business field would help with the knowledge needed to be a manager. Depending on the level of management you want to pursue, a degree will likely be necessary. Operations is an important aspect of being a manager in the transportation field, so having knowledge/experience with that would help tremendously.
