Hello, Mia !

This is an outstanding, important question when navigating future education and work ! It is both interesting and informative to obtain various points of view from different professionals in various careers. I will address Acting on both a cultural and personal level.

To be considered a success as an actor on the basis of American cultural factors, it would be measured by the actor's level of wealth and fame. This is perpetually shown as the standard for success in this field of work. The star system began in the late 1800's so that producers in music halls and theatres could draw in an audience, thus make money for their business. Creating exciting characters or performers with spectacular backgrounds worked. So stars are a business creation and a business deal more or less. The star system works, so about the time that talking films came about in the 1920's, the film industry implemented the star system to draw in audiences. It continues till this day. Your average person would see success for an actor as being famous and wealthy for this reason. It is the image driven into people's thoughts.

There are however, actors who do not make a lot of money and no one knows their name or face. But they work, do great projects and are very happy people with little conflict. For actors, it is important to understand that they are all different, some motivated by emotion and some motivated socially and intellectually. So an actor can feel successful simply by what they define as success. Those who do not have the need for fame and fortune are happy to have their income coming from acting and enjoying each project they work on. There are millions of actors whose faces and names we do not know.

This is a great question for this career. It's very subjective and a person brings their personal values and philosophy of life to whatever career they obtain. If you consider that in your own life, you will set a standard and discover what will make you successful in your career, no matter which line of work you choose.

Even though our culture may tell us what makes an actor successful, there are millions of happy actors doing their career and enjoying it without fame and fortune. Working at what you love is most important.

Work smarter, not harder. Automate the tedious stuff. Apply the 80/20 rule to your advantage. If you're going to do something, do it well. Sometimes, more is less (the KISS principle).

Yesh’s Answer

In my organization success is measured by three Key Performance Indicators: 1) My individual accomplishments, 2) My contributions to the success of my peers, and 3) My achievements that build upon the work of others. While this structure might be unique to my organization it can be easily implemented in any field. It encourages you to not only think of yourself as an individual but also consider the impact you have on your organization's broader mission. Success is measured equally across all three indicators allowing you to drive impact in multiple ways.

Kennedy’s Answer

Hello Mia, thanks for the insightful query! The concept of success can be interpreted in numerous ways, depending on the situation or context. In my current profession as a consultant, we typically define success by our ability to effectively assist our clients and generate significant value for them. Although this definition seems broad, it essentially boils down to executing the tasks we're hired to do, which could range from due diligence to integration projects. Additionally, we aim to provide value beyond the initial expectations, usually quantified in terms of cost savings or profit growth. On a personal level, I gauge my success by my performance within my team. My aim is to support my colleagues and manager by either reducing their workload or delivering high-quality work myself. I hope this gives you a clearer understanding!
