Hi Rohini,
I'm thrilled to hear that you're pursuing a degree in Finance! I graduated with a BBA in Finance in 2007 and followed it up with an MBA in Finance in 2009. From early on, I knew that my passion was rooted in numbers, problem-solving, analysis, and leveraging technological innovation. I began my career with two internships at large, locally headquartered companies, and those experiences were instrumental in launching my career.
In today’s competitive market, networking is absolutely essential.
I highly recommend building a strong network on LinkedIn. Connect with professionals in the field and join various finance-related groups—whether they focus on general finance topics, specific industries, or align with the area of finance you’re most interested in, such as Banking, Financial Planning & Analysis, or Financial Systems. You might also want to explore local networking events and job fairs where you can engage directly with recruiters and hand them your resume.
Once you land an interview, make sure to do thorough research on the company. Learn about their annual revenues, key competitors, the broader economic landscape, and any recent press releases. This preparation will help you craft thoughtful questions and showcase your knowledge, making you stand out from other candidates.
Best of luck in your journey!
