According to Coursera, earning a degree in computer science can lead to exciting opportunities across many industries. The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) projects that computer and information technology-related careers will grow much faster than the average for all occupations in the coming years. BestColleges also highlights that with a bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, you can explore many entry-level jobs and high-level specialized roles. Indeed, the BLS predicts that computer science employment may grow by 15% from 2021 to 2031, which is a very rapid rate of growth.

Hi Shaune, It is always good to find out about an area before investing time and energy. Some thoughts to consider:
1. Is your passion-aptitude-skills fit this area? Will it bring you joy to be working in this area each day. It is a fantastic area in Engineering which is constantly changing due to innovation.
2. Life-long learning is essential for this area. Tech changes very fast and one has to keep up. This could be exhilarating to some while being frustrating to others. There is never a dull moment in this field.
3. Logical, Abstract and Structured thinking - are you able to think about potential issues in the abstract and then based on your knowledge and skills propose logical solutions etc. Computer Engineering HW/SW/FW requires the ability to think in the abstract and connect the dots in your head to form a complete structure/picture. Do you have the patient curiosity to strive to understand the complex interdependencies that makes a solution work?
4. Fast Paced work env. As tech cycles are getting shorter work velocity to realize the latest products etc. are getting faster. Especially augmented with AI this work velocity will become even faster. It is a demanding area but also very rewarding as you pick up experience and knowledge.
5. Training to be a Computer Engineer requires good amount of High School/College/Graduate School education to prepare for a good career ahead. There is a dedication required to the field that brings success as a Computer Engineer. STEM courses in High School will prepare you for a career in Computer Eng. and start reading up about Technologies like Cloud, Quantum Computing, AI etc. to get a feel for what’s happening in the industry.
I wish you luck with this exploration and hope you will land on an area of study that aligns with your deep interest.
Good luck!
