What should I do during the summer of my junior year of high school? #Fall24
I want to do something related to engineering but I haven't quite ironed down anything specific. For the past few years, all my jobs have been related to teaching children or tutoring so I'm worried those won't be useful when it's time for me to apply to colleges. #Fall24

Don't sell yourself short. Teaching and tutoring other students will look great on your resume. It shows you know the material well enough to teach others. It shows your willingness to assist others who are struggling a bit. It displays good moral character and empathy. Keep doing so, especially if you enjoy doing so. You could also see if you can take a summer class in a subject that will provide more of a foundation of knowledge towards your goal of making engineering a field. Internship will really help with real world experience. Take an online course in math, physics, electrical or mechanical courses.

Hello!
Somethings you can do is mini projects. There are a lot of projects on YouTube that you could follow along with. At this point don't worry about the project being original (make sure you mentioned you followed a tutorial online when talking to people), you're after experience. I understand if getting material for projects is difficult, if that's the case, just watching reputable YouTubers and/or shows and just learning is another good thing to do. I recommend NOVA since this will show you a wide verity of engineering/science.
One thing I'll say is, it's ok if you don't have any projects/engineering experience going into college. I didn't. College is there to teach you about engineering. Not saying having a project or two won't help out, just don't think it's a requirement.
Your time teaching children would be extremely useful in college applications. It shows time management and communication skills.
I hope this helps out a little!
