HI Samantha,
You may want to start looking at the types of scholarships that are available. What kind of scholarships are there? Scholarships usually have a focus in some way. For example, I am in an employee resource group at AT&T where we support Hispanic/LatinX youth. There are a variety of opportunities with the groups at AT&T. However, there are a large amount of scholarships with focus on areas like STEM, Art, and other areas of study. (I know a young person who earned a scholarship by winning a writing competition.) You should review scholarships to see what they are expecting from you. Many include your grade point average and where you live. Also, check out what scholarships may be offered by the university that you want to attend. Some universities have scholarships funded by alumni of the school.
Other advice for you:
- Apply for scholarships every year that you are at university, not just your freshman year. Use the resources at the school to find other scholarships.
- Make sure that you apply for multiple scholarships. You can earn more than one.
Good luck your scholarship search.

Pretty much any college will accept a scholarship, to verify just check on their website as they should have a section on the site that talks about it, and to get one there's plenty of organizations that offer them, some are state exclusive, some are general, some have heavy restrictions, some don't etc. There's a huge variety of them out there that you can absolutely find online so just search!

Most universities offer scholarships. There are also many independent organizations that offer them. Usually they are divided into the following types:
1. Academic performance based
2. Passion / skill based - ex: dance or sport specific
3. Community specific - ex: latinX or for women in STEM
4. Essay based
I suggest spending some time researching independent scholarships based on the criteria above you feel competitive in. Don't look past small stipend amounts as they tend to have less applicants and can add up!
When you are accepted a university, you can also review their financial aid website and/or meet with their financial aid specialists.
Lastly, be sure to take advantage of any state / federal financial aid programs such as FAFSA.

Majority of the Colleges and Universities accept scholarships whether the scholarships are from private organizations, community based, government provided, or it comes directly from the institution itself. That being said, here are the following ways you can get scholarships.
- If you are eligible, consider applying for the FAFSA (it's free) and offers scholarships, grants, and loans.
-College Board
-Bold.org
-Niche.com
-Overall, just make sure you do your research. You are able to receive scholarships for an extracurriular activity you do outside of school hours, your intended field of study, if you are need-based (in financial need), if you belong to a specific ethnic or cultural group, and you can also receive scholarships based off your own merit ( like athletic, academic, artistic achievements you've made).
